What is the Duramax?
In a joint venture, GM and Isuzu created a powerful V8 diesel engine with high-pressure common-rail direct injection for trucks. When it hit the market in GM and Chevy vehicles, it was the first of its kind to be used in the United States. Dubbed the Duramax, it paved the way for advanced diesel engines of the 21st century. Since its inception in 1998, millions of Duramax engines have been used in GM and Chevy trucks and vans, including the Silverado, Sierra, Express, Savana, and others. Over the years, the design has evolved to improve both engine and exhaust performance. Today’s latest version, the L5p, is hallmarked by some as the best and most reliable diesel engine. Through the years, Midland Diesel has kept up with the standards for Duramax repair and maintenance.
